Steve Harley (born Steven Nice) was born 27 February 1951 Deptford, London, England) As a child, Harley suffered from polio. In 1972 he met violinist John Crocker, with whom he formed Cockney Rebel they signed for EMI. Cockney Rebel went on to released three singles (Sebastien, Mr. Soft & Judy Teen) and two albums (The Human Menagerie and The Psychomodo) before splitting up in 1974. Steve released a solo single Big Big Deal which failed to chart. In 1975 Steve then started a new group with the original Cockney Rebel drummer Stuart Elliott Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel there first single Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me) went to number 1 soon after the album The Best Years of Our Lives album was released also of this album was Mr Raffles (Man It Was Mean) which made it to the top 20. The following album Timeless Flight was not has successful has The Best Years Of Our Lives in the chart it saw two singles from the album (Black Or White & White, White Dove) The last studio album Love's a Prima Donna (Released 1976) saw the group last top 10 single a rework of George Harrison's Here Comes The Sun the other single from the album was (I Believe) Love's a Prima Donna. Then last album to be released under the name Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel was a live album Face To Face which saw a live single of Best Years Of Our Lives. Soon after the group disbanded for Steve to go solo. Steve's next project would be the album Hobo with a Grin which saw two singles (Roll The Dice & Someone's Coming) Steve went back into the studio the following year to make his second solo album The Candidate which saw Freedom Prisoner reach number 58. This was Steve last album for 13 Years as for most of the 80s saw one off singles (I Can't Even Touch You, Ballerina (Prima Donna), Irresistible, Irresistible remix, Heartbeat Like Thunder). But in 1986 Steve returned to the top ten with a duet with Sarah Brightman The Phantom Of The Opera reaching number 7 Steve was meant to play the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber play but was replaced at the last minute by Michael Crawford. Steve went on to make the charity single (with Jon Anderson & Mike Batt) Whatever You Believe for the ITV Telethon Marathon. In 1988 saw the re-release of Mr. Soft this was due to the television ad for Trebor Soft Mints. 1989 saw a now ultra rare single When I'm With You. Steve went back into the studio in 1992 to make his first album in 13 years Yes You Can no single was released from this album. it would be three years before Steve would release his fourth solo album Poetic Justice also saw no singles released. 1995 also saw the re-release of Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me) reaching 33 this was Steve's last top 40 hit to date. In 1999 Steve began presenting a BBC Radio programme The Sounds of the Seventies of which the last programme aired on 27 March 2008. 2001 saw a CD single A Friend For Life. 2005 saw Steve using the Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel (with a new line up) name for the The Quality Of Mercy album. 2005 also saw new recording of Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me) this was to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the song. 2010 saw Steve release his fifth solo album Stranger Comes To Town which also saw a limited edition 7" single of the song The Last Goodbye. Since the 1970s Steve as been touring non stop s and looks like he as no intention of slowing down has 2011 he will be touring most of the UK & Europe..
