Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood

Evan Rachel Wood was born on September 7, 1987 in Raleigh, North Carolina to actor/director parents. She made her acting debut at age three at Raleigh's Theater In The Park, owned and run by her father. When she was seven, Wood landed roles in two TV movies: In The Best of Families 94 and Search for Grace 94. The following year she played a supporting role in the TV movie A Father for Charlie 95), starring Lou Gossett Jr., followed by Death in Small Doses 95, starring Richard Thomas. She also landed a recurring role on three episodes of the CBS TV series American Gothic. By the time she was eight, Wood played Helen Keller in the Theater In The Park's stage production of The Miracle Worker, co-starring her mother as Annie Sullivan and directed by her father.
After landing a starring role in the feature film Digging to China 98, directed by Timothy Hutton and co-starring Kevin Bacon, ten-year-old Wood and her mother moved to California to pursue her career on screen. The little girl played the recurring role of Chloe Waters on NBC's Profiler series as well as a supporting role in the big budget film practical magic 98 starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. In 99 she landed her breakthrough role playing Jessie Sammler, the daughter of Bill Campbell's character in the brand new ABC drama Once and Again. The show was a hit both with critics and the public, and ran for three seasons. Wood won a Young Hollywood Award and shared a Young Artist Award with two other young actresses in the show. Playing the daughter of divorced parents, Wood had her own experience to draw on as the physical separation of her family became permanent when her parents divorced. Her father and oldest brother still live in North Carolina and she often travels back home to watch her father perform in plays.

Since the cancellation of Once and Again, Wood has made the leap to the big screen with a supporting role in S1m0ne 02 starring Al Pacino, a lead role in The Missing 03 , playing Cate Blanchett's daughter and a starring role in Thirteen 03 opposite Holly Hunter. For her role as a rebellious teen in the latter film, she received numerous awards and nominations, including a Golden Globe nomination.

Evan Wood lives in Los Angeles. Her hobbies include horseback riding, swimming and singing, and she has a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. She made headlines when in her late teens, she began dating rocker Marilyn Manson, 18 years her senior, who then filed for divorce from his wife, Dita. However, the relationship has since ended.
