Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman - born Natalie Hershlag, on 9 June 1981, in Jerusalem, Israel - took her maternal grandmother's maiden name as a stage persona after winning her incredible debut role in Leon. She was 13.
Summer t Heatre camps provided some stage work, but roles in Heat, Beautiful Girls and Everyone Says I Love You proved that Portman was a girl of huge talent and no small craft.
Cast as Queen Amidala in Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, Portman juggled being Darth Vader's wife in the rest of the prequel trilogy with completing her education and gaining a psychology degree from Harvard.
Committed (and often revealing) roles in Garden State, Closer and V For Vendetta confirmed that Portman has lost none of her touch, and she's most recently to be found opposite Dustin Hoffman in Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium, and with Scarlett Johansson in The Other Boleyn Girl...
Wise words: "The moment you buy into the idea you're above anyone else is the moment you need to be slapped in the face."
