Ardal O'Hanlon

Ardal O'Hanlon is an Irish comedian and actor who was born in 1965 at Carrickmacross in Ireland. His most notable roles on TV are Father Dougal McGuire in Father Ted and George Sunday on My Hero.

O'Hanlon first started off as a stand up comedian but in 1995 he was cast in the TV series Father Ted playing the dim-witted priest known as Father Dougal McGuire. McGuire was unable to grasp simple everyday things and didn't understand many things that were said to him. Father Ted finished after 3 series' in 1998 after co-star Dermot Morgan died due to a heart attack

This theme was continued in his next big role in the TV series called My Hero. His character as a superhero called Thermoman from the planet Ultron and George Sunday. George Sunday was known for similar traits to Dougal Maguire in that he struggled to understand things and often made mistakes due to him being from another planet. The series started in 2000 and ran for a total of 6 series with O'Hanlon appearing in all 6 (only a couple of episodes in the last series) until he decided to leave and was replaced by James Dreyfus.

O'Hanlon appeared on an episode of Dr Who called "Gridlock" on April 14th 2007. He played an alien named Thomas Kincade Brannigan
