Richard Burton

One of the leading lights on the British stage during the 1950's and 60's, Richard Burton, the son of a miner from Wales, became one of Hollywood's highest paid leading men, particularly after his marriage to Elizabeth Taylor, whom he met and fell in love with on the set of 'Cleopatra'.
His personal life, especially with Taylor, was seldom absent from the front pages of the world's press, up to his premature death at the age of 58 in 1984.
Burton's somewhat casual approach to the movies that he undertook to act in has left a filmography of many unremarkable roles, but his strongest performances ( 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf', 'The Spy Who Came In From The Cold', '1984', 'Night of the Iguana' etc ) still reveal Burton's charisma and often the powerful screen presence that made him so legendary on both stage and screen.
