Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Shankar Dixit was born on 15 May 1967 in Mumbai, India is an indian actress. Madhuri is considered to be one of the shining divas of Indian cinema and is a respected icon worldwide among her fans. In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, by the Government of India. Madhuri is of a Marathi Chitpavan Brahmin family.

Her career started back in 1984 with the film Abodh. Her big break came after a dance item number she did in the film Tezaab that shot her to international stardom; the song was titled 'Ek Do Teen'. Her dancing talents have been reknowned the world over. Her famous dance numbers include:

'Chane Ke Khet Mein' (from Anjaam)
'Choli Ke Peechhe' (from Khalnayak)
'Akhiyan Milaun' (from Raja)

'Maar Daala' (from Devdas)
'Nachle' (from Aaja Nachle),

among others, have recieved abundant critical acclaim. Her unique style of acting and dancing combined have made sure she has held the top spot in the industry.

Madhuri has been the muse for the famous indian painter M.F. Hussain who considers her the epitome of womanhood. Hence he made a film named Gaja Gamini in which Madhuri acted in. The film was intended as a tribute to Madhuri herself. In this film she can be seen portraying various forms and manifestations of womanhood including the muse of Kalidasa, Leonardo's Mona Lisa, a rebel, and an incarnation of musical euphoria.

In 1999 Madhuri married Dr Shriram Madhav Nene from the USA and left India to live with her husband in the USA. He is also from a Marathi Konkanastha Brahmin family. She has two sons, Arin (born 2003) and Raayan (born 2005). Madhuri has two elder sisters and an elder brother, who all also reside in the USA.
