Beyonce Knowles
Beyonce Giselle Knowles is one-third (originally one-quarter) of singing super-troop Destiny’s Child, and the 33.3333% to have most effectively parlayed pop stardom into screen success and all-round celebrity status.
Born 4 September 1981 in Houston, Texas – Beyonce won countless singing and dancing competitions at an early age, before the teenage graft really started with chums as group-mates and father Matthew Knowles as manager.
Hard work that paid off when Columbia Records signed the girls in 1996. Fame, top ten hits and number-one albums dominated the late-90s and early 2000s. By which time Beyonce was embarking on a solo career, a high-profile relationship with rapper Jay-Z, and attention-grabbing movie roles like Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers - Goldmember, Xania in The Pink Panther and – most recently – Deena in Broadway-musical-adaptation and Supremes-inspired Dreamgirls.
