David Caruso

David Caruso
Distinctive red-haired American actor, born 7 January 1956 in Queens, New York, best known as cool cucumber, sunglasses-fixated crimesolver Horatio Caine on the wildly popular “CSI: Miami”. Caruso first appeared as a fresh young face opposite some surprisingly big names: as Richard Gere's obnoxious and ill-fated classmate in "An Officer and a Gentleman", and a clueless hick deputy crossing Sylvester Stallone's warpath in "Rambo: First Blood".

He sneered and menaced his way through the rest of the 80's before landing his big break in *the* original cop show "NYPD Blue" as the caring, sharing half of the good cop/bad cop double act with grizzled veteran Dennis Franz. He was its breakout star, and, as the show snowballed, he very publicly took his leave midway through the second season to pursue fame on the silver screen.

Famously, his glittering career as a leading man failed to materialise, and he managed a couple of poorly-received and underwhelming B-movies (notably raunchy 'erotic thriller' "Jade") before sinking into obscurity. He resurfaced in 2000 as Russell Crowe's personable fellow soldier-of-fortune in "Proof of Life", and after a few false starts ("Black Point"), hit his stride once more at the head of CSI's suntanned spinoff.
