W.C. Fields

W.C. Fields was one of the funniest physical comedians of the 20th Century. His round, cartoonish face and bumbling underachiever character instantly connected with cinema audiences throughout the world and made him one of the most popular actors of the early 20th Century.

He was trained as a juggler, and perfomed as an eccentric stage artist before turning to acting with the emergence of cinema technology. The characters he invented were often drunks, misanthropes and misfits, but nevertheless, amusing and highly comic.

A forerunner of Peter Sellers and Bill Hicks, he was a true comic individual.

His was born on January 29, 1880 in Philadelphia and died December 25, 1946.
