Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett
Catherine Elise Blanchett - born 14 May 1969, in Melbourne, Australia - is a multiple-award-winning Australian actress who has pretty much become a British national treasure for her turns as Queen Elizabeth I.

After only a few years in (mostly good) Aussie telly (where she met Geoffrey Rush), 1998 saw Cate's BAFTA-winning, Golden Globe-winning, Oscar-nominated performance in Elizabeth – not a bad way to make your mark. Strong turns in mixed movies followed, and awards & nods kept on flowing, especially with the advent of The Lord Of The Rings trilogy in 2001.

The Academy Award finally landed in 2004, with her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn in The Aviator; and there’s every chance she’ll have Oscar bookends once her reprisal of QEI in Elizabeth: The Golden Age reaches awards season.

Cate makes interesting and varied choices, is frequently the best thing in whatever she’s in, and is part of the Indiana Jones IV cast, due for release on 22 May 2008.

Wise Words: "If you know you are going to fail, then fail gloriously!"
