Natasha Richardson

Natasha Richardson
Natasha Richardson died on Wednesday 18th March in a New York hospital after a skiing accident in Canada. She was 45 years old.

Her family, including husband Liam Neeson, were with her during the final moments. A statement released by Neeson’s publicist said that the family was "shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

Richardson fell during a lesson on the beginner’s slope at the Mont Tremblant resort in Quebec on Monday. The accident initially appeared to be minor, but she began suffering headaches within an hour. She was transferred to Montreal when her injuries became critical, and flown to New York on Tuesday.

Neeson rushed from the Toronto set of the film, Chloe, to be at his wife’s side, and they were joined in Manhattan by their sons, Michael and Daniel; Richardson’s mother, actress Vanessa Redgrave; and her sister, actress Joely Richardson.

It is believed that Richardson suffered a traumatic brain injury. She died at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York after being removed from life support.

On the big screen, Richardson starred in The Handmaid’s Tale, Nell, Maid In Manhattan and, most recently, Wild Child. She had a raft of TV credits too, and was an acclaimed, Tony Award-winning stage actress.

We express our deepest sympathies to her family at this time and our hope that they will find comfort in the face of this tragedy. She was a star that blazed brightly and all too briefly and we are the poorer for her loss.
