John Hughes
John Hughes died of a heart attack on 6th August 2009. He was 59 years-old.

Famous for directing 80s and early 90s comedy classics such as The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Curly Sue, John Hughes continued working in the film industry as a writer. Most recently Hughes wrote Drillbit Taylor, starring Owen Wilson, and Maid in Manhattan, starring Jennifer Lopez. He was also responsible for writing children’s favourites including the Home Alone and Beethoven series, and Flubber, 101 Dalmatians, Miracle on 34th Street and Dennis the Menace.

"In the last decade, he stepped back from the legacy he created to enjoy time with his family, maintain a functioning farm in northern Illinois and support independent arts," his reps said in a statement.

Hughes leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Nancy, their two sons, John and James, and four grandchildren.
