Ruth Wilson

Ruth Wilson was born on 13th January 1982 in Surrey.
As a teenager, she worked as a model. Her first stage role was Ginelli in the international tour of 'The Hush' (in 2002) and then Lady Macbeth in 'Macbeth' at the Lakesdie Theatre, both run by Hush Productions which she co-founded whilst at the University of Nottingham. After that, in 2005 she played Jewel Diamond in the TV series 'Suburban Shootout', a situation comedy. In the same year she appeared in a student production of CP Taylor's 'Good', which transferred to the Sound Theatre for a short run in 2005.
In 2006, Ruth Wilson got her big break when she was chosen to play Jane Eyre in the BBC's mini-series of 'Jane Eyre'. For this performance she was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of 'Best Actress in a Series, Mini Series or TV Movie' and came second in a BBC's viewer's poll of 'Best Actress of 2006'. She was also nominated for 'Best Actress' for her role in 'Jane Eyre' by the Broadcasting Press Guild, BAFTA Televsion Awards and the Satellite Awards. In 2006, she also played the role of Woman in a short film called 'Get Off My Land'.
In 2007, Ruth played Tanya in the Royal National Theatre's production of 'Philistines' at the Lyttelton Theatre. In 2007, she also appeared in three TV films: 'A Real Summer' where she played Mary/ Geraldine, 'Capturing Mary' where she played Young Mary and 'Marple: Nemesis' where she played Georgina Barrow.
In 2008, she appeared in the docu-drama of 'The Doctor Who Hears Voices' as Ruth and the radio drama of 'The Mayor of Casterbridge' as Elizabeth-Janes.
Her future projects include a 2009 mini-series of 'The Prisoner'. Her role will be 'No. 313'. In this year she will also play Queenie in a BBC adaptation of 'Small Island'.
