Charlotte Coleman

Charlotte Ninon Coleman born 3rd April 1968, died 14th November 2001 (aged 33).

Charlotte started acting from a young age, with her first major television role being Sue in Worzel Gummidge in 1979.

She followed this by playing the childrens television character Marmalade Atkins. A rebelious punk teenager first appearing in a one off programme called Marmalade Atkins in Space (1981) and then two further series. Educating Marmalade (1982-83) and Danger:Marmalade at Work (1984).

In 1990 she gained a highly regarded reputation as an adult actress when she was awarded a Best Actress award from the Royal Television Society, and was also nominated for a BAFTA for her role in the BBC television drama Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit.

Their followed television appearances in Inspector Morse and The Bill before she won the role which she is perhaps most well known for, as Scarlett in Four Weddings And A Funeral (1994), which lead to another BAFTA nomination.

Charlotte remained in London rather than heading to Hollywood and worked regularly in both television and film. Some of the films included the Young Poisoner's Handbook (1995), Different For Girls (1996) and Beautiful People (1999). She also had a role in a film originally titled The Man With Rain In His Shoes, the title of which was later changed to If Only (1998) starring Penelope Cruz, Lena Headey and Mark Strong.

In 1998-99 Charlotte starred alongside Dylan Moran and Peter Serafinowicz in the underrated tv sitcom How Do You Want Me.

On the 14th November 2001 Charlotte was found lying unconscious on the floor of her flat. She was taken to hospital in North London but was pronounced dead on arrival, the result of an asthma attack.
