Chingamy Yau

Born on 16 May 1968, Chingmy Yau (Yau Shuk-Ching) is one of the many oriental gems to hit the silver screen and captivate audiences with her beauty. A Hong Kong actress who no longer takes part in films although she is not formally retired.

Only after entering the 1987 Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant she then fell into the Hong Kong film industry. Much like fellow actress Maggie Cheung (Cheung Man-Yuk) Chingmy Yau never won the Beauty Pageant but their appearance was more than enough to win her several film roles.

Chingmy's career did not take off until she became romantically involved with Hong Kong film director Wong Jing (a renowned director recognised for his unique style), even though he was married at the time. She was one of the leading actresses in the late 1980s and early 1990s, next to Maggie Cheung, Brigitte Lin and Cheung Man. Wong casted her in a series of adult films, though she never appeared nude in any of them. The most notable of these was Naked Killer (1992). During the height of her success, she regularly starred alongside superstars like Jet Li, Stephen Chow, and Ekin Cheng.

In 1997 she split up with Wong and her career slowed down significantly.

In 1999 she married Hong Kong fashion designer Shen Jiawei and have two children together. Though she has not officially retired from acting, she has made no announcements or plans to return in any film. She's still featured in tabloids from time to time with news regarding her personal life.
