Leonardo DiCaprio
Born 11 November, 1974, in Los Angeles, California - Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio is one-part Italian, three-parts German by heritage. And widely regarded as one-part actor, three-parts pretty boy by those who’ve somehow forgotten just how good he is.
Yes, leaping aboard the big-budget behemoth of Titanic sent his star-rating super-global. Yes, it opened a wealth of opportunities. And no, he doesn’t regret it. But blockbuster-chasing dilettante DiCaprio most definitely is not.
At the tender age of only 19, he was terrific in This Boy's Life and What's Eating Gilbert Grape, the latter earning an Oscar nomination. Likewise, two years later in The Basketball Diaries. And while Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo And Juliet set hearts fluttering, Leo’s fearsomely committed nonetheless.
His track record’s not entirely unblemished since Titanic, admittedly, but consider the run since 2002: Gangs Of New York, Catch Me If You Can, The Aviator, The Departed, Blood Diamond. Leo DiCaprio: serious actor, frontline movie entertainer, Spider-Man’s best-mate…
Wise words: "You learn after you've been in the business for a while that it's not getting your face recognised that's the payoff. It's having your film remembered."
