Mike Vogel
Michael James Vogel was born in Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania and raised in Warminster Township, Pennsylvania; both of his grandfather’s fought in World War II, with one being a tank commander and fighting in the Battle of the Bulge, and the other being a Seabee in the Navy. His father was a local plumber and Mike has often commented in interviews regarding fond memories of assisting his father with his work. Mike has two younger siblings: a brother, Daniel Aaron, and a sister, Kristin. Mike attended William Tennent High School, the same high school as Sprint spokesman Brian Baker and boxer Kermit Cintron, where Mike was on the Freshman wrestling team. During the early 2000s, he frequently travelled to New York City in order to audition for acting roles and modelling slots
Mike is married to model Courtney Vogel and they have two daughters, Cassy Renee Vogel born in 2007 and Charlee B Vogel born in 2009. In an interview with Men’s Health Mike admitted to not being able to communicate well with women growing up and said that when he first met Courtney he literally turned his back on her and mumbled a few incoherent answers to her questions. He later went to phone his family to inform them he had just met his wife.
His career began with modelling for Levi’s and soon landed a role in the series ‘Grounded for Life’. His first film role was in the skateboarding-themed Grind playing Eric Rivers, which was released on August 15, 2003. The film's co-stars included Adam Brody and Jennifer Morrison. Mike’s next role was in the made-for-television remake of Wuthering Heights, which premiered on MTV a month after Grind's release, in September 2003. Mike not only starred as the lead in this movie but he also sang most of the songs including ‘I will Crumble’ and ‘Shine’. Mike’s last 2003 role was in the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which was released in October to high box office.
In 2005, after Grounded for Life was cancelled, Mike appeared in four film roles. First, he played Eric Richman, the romantic interest of Blake Lively's character in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, which had a June release. His next role was the lead in the low-budget film, Supercross, which was theatrically released in August. Vogel filmed his role in Havoc, a dark, R-rated drama also starring Anne Hathaway, in 2003, but the film was not released until November 2005, when it bypassed theatres and was released directly-to-video. Mike’s final 2005 role was in Rumor Has It…, starring Jennifer Aniston, in which he had a supporting role as the son of Kevin Costner's character. Unfortunately it is a ‘blink and you’ll miss him’ role.
Mike’s first 2006 role is in Poseidon, a disaster film and remake of the 1972 film The Poseidon Adventure; he plays the fiancé of Emmy Rossum's character. Mike was originally offered the role of Angel in X-Men: The Last Stand, but backed out to appear in Poseidon. The same year, he appeared in Caffeine, a British based romcom and signed to appear in a horror movie called Open Graves, shot in Spain with Buffy and Dollhouse star Eliza Dushku. In 2007, Vogel appeared in the film The Deaths Of Ian Stone, part of the horror film festival 8 Films to Die For. In 2009, Vogel starred in the neo-noir film Across The Hall with Brittany Murphy and the horror film Open Graves. He was part of the 2010 romantic comedy film She's Out of My League playing the voice of experience Jack. He also starred briefly in Blue Valentine part of the Sundance Film Festival line up, and TV series Miami Medical and the religious drama Heaven's Rain about Senator Douglas’ trials and tribulations bringing about victims rights legislation.
Mike was part of the 2011 comedy film What's Your Number? and plays "Johnny Foote" in the film adaption The Help. He was also one of the actors in contention for the role of Captain America, but the role went to Chris Evans instead. Currently he has replaced Jonah Lotan in the new ABC series Pan Am as the plane’s Captain Dean Lowrey.
