Juan Moreno y Herrera Jimenez (Jean Reno)

Born July 30, 1948 in Casablanca, Morocco of Spanish parents.

He studied at the Cours Simon drama school in Paris in 1970, which was founded by French actor René Simon in 1925.

The 6’ 2” actor made his stage debut in “Ecce Homo” in 1974, and his screen debut in 1978, playing a small role in "L'Hypothese du tableau vole".

Toured with stage director Didier Flamand, before teaming up with Luc Besson and appearing in Besson’s first short film “L’avant Dernier” (1981), and “Le Dernier Combat” (1983).

He progressed to second male lead as Enzo Molineri in Besson’s “Le Grand Bleu” (The Big Blue) (1988) receiving critical praise and nominated for ‘best supporting actor’ at ‘The César Awards’, the main national film awards in France.

Reno starred in the French comedy “Les Visiteurs” (The Visitors) (1993) and was again nominated for a César for ‘best actor’.

Reno brought a human persona to an amoral character in Besson’s “La Femme Nikita” (1991) in which he co-starred with Annie Parillaud, and again as a similar character in Besson’s well received action drama Léon (also known as The Professional and Léon: The Professional) along side Gary Oldman and Natalie Portman in her first starring role. Reno was again nominated for a César for ‘best actor’ for Léon (1994).

Hollywood called and Jean answered, playing a conman in Lawrence Kasdan’s “French Kiss” (1995), and a secret agent alongside Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible” (1996).

Reno starred alongside De Nero in “Ronin” (1998) directed by John Frankenheimer, he also appeared alongside Matthew Broderick in the box office hit “Godzilla” (1998) and Chris Klein in “Rollerball” (2001) a remake of the original film “Rollerball” (1975).

In 2000 Reno won the ‘Outstanding European Achievement in world Cinema’ award.

Reno was nominated for an ‘Audience Award’ for ‘best actor’ for his portrayal of the detective commissioner Pierre Niemans in Mathieu Kassovitz’s mystery thriller “Les Rivières pourpres” (The Crimson Rivers) (2000), and again played a detective in Besson’s fast moving dramedy “Wasabi” (2001), before co-starring as a businessman with Juliet Binoche in the romantic comedy “Jet Lag” (2002).

In 2005 he appeared in “La Tigre e La Neve” and “L’empire des Loups” before co-starring with Steve Martin as a detective in “The Pink Panther (2006).

Reno played Bezu Fache in Ron Howard’s “The Da Vinci Code” (2006).
