Aamir Khan
Aamir Hussain Khan born on 14 March 1965, Mumbai, India is an indian actor, screenwriter, producer and director. He is an established leading actor in Hindi films and has delivered a number of highly acclaimed performances. He is also the founder-owner of Aamir Khan Productions.
His debut role was in the film Holi in 1984. His first notable leading role was in 1988 in the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. This film was a breakthrough success effectively launching Aamir's career as a leading actor. He is one of the highest paid actors in India. Most of his films are successfully critically aclaimed.
In 2001 he appeared in the film Lagaan, which was a major critical success and recieved a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film at the 74th Academy Awards. Additionally, the film gathered critical acclaim at several international film festivals, in addition to winning numerous Indian awards, including the National Film Awards. This was his first film he produced.
In 2005 his critically acclaimed role in the film Rang De Basanti was selected as India's official entry to the Oscars. Although the film was not shortlisted as a nominee, it recieved a nomination for Best Foriegn Film at the BAFTA Awards in England.
In 2007 his film Taare Zameen Par marked his directorial debut. The film recieved excellent responses from critics and audiences for his acting and directing.
In 2008, Aamir launched his nephew Imran Khan's debut in the film Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na under his production house. The film was a big hit.
Aamir married Reena Dutta in 1987 and divorced in 2002, taking custody of their two children. They have a son named Junaid and a daughter, Ira. In 2005 he married Kiran Rao.
Though nominated and a winner of many times, Aamir does not attend any Indian film award ceremonies as he feels "Indian film awards lack credibility". In 2007, Aamir was invited to have a wax imitation of himself put on display at Madame Tussauds in London. However, Aamir declined stating that, "It's not important to me... people will see my films if they want to see me".
