Dito Montiel

Dito Montiel was born in Astoria, Queens in 1965. After a troubled childhood, Dito toyed with modelling and music and eventually came into the public eye as part of the band 'Gutterboy' after his hardcore punk band, 'Major Conflict' broke up. They were signed to Geffen Records for $1 Million.

In 2003, Dito published 'A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints'. The book is an autobiography/memoir, which details his childhood in Astoria, his time touring with Gutterboy and some thought provoking personal insights. Robert Downey Jnr described it as 'A series of brilliant vignettes.'

Dito adapted the book into a screenplay shortly afterwards, and made a film version of 'A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints'. It became his directorial debut. Among others rising stars, the film featured Robert Downey Jnr, Dianne Wiest, Shia LeBouef and Rosario Dawson, who later appeared in Sin City and Tarantino's 'Death Proof.'

His second novel was published in 2007. It is called 'Eddie Krumble Is The Clapper'

His self titled debut album was released in 2006 on Rhino Records label.

He is currently filming a movie called 'Fighting' about a ticket scalper who is introduced to the world of street Fighting- something his first book covers in detail. The film stars Channing Tatum and is available to reserve on LoveFilm.
