Cry Freedom

What annoys me is the fact that I was going in and out of South Africa at the time that all this was taking place! I always knew that S Africa had a terrible regime, even the cabbies in those days went about in pairs! I still loathe the country and more particularly the Afrikaans! During the late 80's my eyes were really opened to the abuses going on and have been told that this film, though close does not nearly tell the whole truth! Still a great movie.

The Green Mile

Nothing I can write would even come close to describing this movie. Not a great Tom Hanks fan but nobody else could play the lead role. A great, great movie.

Mississippi Burning

Another of those movies that make me so angry and yet helpless at the same time. The real Mississippi Burning is a little different but the results were the same. At least the American justice system is at last catching up with some of the perpetrators of these henous crimes, though it doesn't help that they are goaling these guys now that they are in their 70's, 80's when they themselves cut lives shorter than that.

A Dry White Season

A South African version of Mississippi Burning almost. This vile regime shown in its true colours! My abiding memory of S Africa is grabbing a Boer customs official by the throat and trying to drag him through the wire grill that seperated us! Spose I was lucky not to have been arrested, but then he was lucky that I didn't get him on my side of the grill!

Das Boot

Watch this with the subtitles switched on as it loses something in being dubbed, a great movie, WWII submarine warfare was dirty, smelly, sweaty, nasty and downright terrifying.

A Time To Kill

Having read the book first I thought Matthew McConaghy was wrong for the Jake Brigance role, but for me he just about pulls it off. A definite for my DVD box. Samuel L Jackson also excellent

The Hunt For Red October

Even Sean Connery's hopeless Rusky accent doesn't destroy this movie, love it!

Crimson Tide

Frightening to think this could have actually happened!
