Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco

Pixote, a 10-year-old runaway boy, is arrested on the streets of Sao Paulo during a police round-up homeless people. Pixote endures torture, degradation and corruption at a local youth detention center where two of the runaways are murdered by policemen who frame Lilica, a 17-year-old transvesite hustler. Pixote helps Lilica and three other boys escape where they make their living by the life of crime which only escalates to more violence and death.

Who Killed Pixote?

The true story of the boy who became famous when he was cast for the main part on the Brazilian film Pixote: A Lei do Mais Fraco (1981). After the film was over, he tried to work as an actor on other projects, with little success. As time went by, he got involved with crime.

Carandiru

Directed by Hector Babenco (Kiss of the Spider Woman, 1985), the film is based on the life experiences of Dr. Drauzio Varella who worked in the prison complex Carandiru, in the north zone of Sao Paulo city, carrying out Aids prevention work. Not the usual 'chain gang' film.

Bossa Nova
