Such a likeable cast lesser known actors doing a series of career bests. The script crackles with a shabby arrogance.

The Getaway

One of the grimiest action thrillers ever made. McQueen and Mcgraw are supercool.

Last Year At Marienbad

An esoteric, stylish slice of mind fuck pie. Just let the restrained strangeness wash over you and piece together what, if anything, happened afterwards. Tres cool!

The Taking Of Pelham 123

They would never make an action thriller as loose and as ragged as this these days. Even the one line characters seem like they deserve their own flick.

The Paper

This flopped on release which is a shame as Keaton, Howard and Tomei do their best work in this fast paced news room drama. Punchy, funny and relentless, you won't begrudge it the syrupy ending if you go along for the ride.

Quick Change

One of Bill Murray best and an excellent double bill with above "One Mad Day in New York" The Paper. WHY IS THIS NOT ON DVD?

Fearless

I was quite shocked this had so few votes and made the criteria. Jeff Bridges thinks he is immortal after a plane crash and constantly dallies with death as real-life intrudes on his newly found state of zen-like nirvana. And the plane crash is stunningly realised.

Fail-Safe

Like 12 Angry Men and/or Doctor Strangelove? Of course you did. Then this is going to tickle you silly. Tense drama with perhaps the finest ending to a film... ever.
  • Fail-Safe on DVD (1963)
Starring: Dan O'Herlihy,  Walter Matthau,  Frank Overton
    Director: Sidney Lumet
    Certificate: Certificate: PG
Following closely on the heels of Stanley Kubrik's DR. STRANGELOVE (all too closely for Kubrick and company, who quickly filed a lawsuit alleging plagiarism), Sidney Lumet's FAIL-SAFE employs a similarly stylized and heightened dramatic structure in its nerve-crushing moral tale. Taking place over ..read more »

The Andrzrej Wajda War Trilogy

Kanal in this collection is fantastic. That masterpiece and Ashes and Diamond are tense thrillers about World War II resistance where the stark, unusual black and white imagery give every shot a hellish sense of the absurd. Really, these are worth catching.
