From it's very start this cult classic keeps you hanging in disbelieve at what you are seeing, totally gripping from the very first name call. Battle Royale is unique in that every character involved is developed in such away that even after only a few moments you feel you know all about them, it is for this reason that every death becomes memorable. Standout performances from the young cast and in particular Masanobu Ando as Boy #6 Kuriyama, the cold-blooded but oh so fun killer. And it goes without saying that Takashi Kitano is on fine sarcastic form as the class teacher.

My favourite film of all time, this harrowing tale of fbrothers torn apart by the Korean War, is a seminal classic, from it's blood-soaked battles, to it's touching drama, this war movie will be with you long after its credits roll, and leave you asking, does anyone really win in war? A classic that shows both sides of the story and has 0 propaganda unlike many of it's Western counterparts.

Recently remade as The Departed. Infernal Affairs is far superior in terms of Style and story telling. A Cop /Triad thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat, thanks to the fine performances and gripping direction, that will leave you in shock, awe and tears by it's finale. Simply perfection. A classic Hong Kong thriller.

Say what you want about this movie, there is no denying that it caused both controversy and a new era in Triad movies, some critics cite it as the reason for more youngsters joining the Triads, while others (including me), see it as an essential Hong Kong movie, the film gave us super cool Chan Ho Nam(Ekin Cheng) and was the first is a series that sees his rise to the top of the Hung Hing Society, but far from critics believe, this brutal film far from glorifies Triad Life. If losing your girlfriend, father-figure and friends to torture is considered glorifying, then some critics have a seriously dysfunctional mind. An action drama that provides a look at the grimier side of Hong Kong City.

Takashii Miike's classic femme fatale movie. Miike said of his film that he deliberately made the first hour slow, to a point where audiences felt like leaving, and then he enjoyed watching from the back of the cinema, the reaction which including vomiting and exiting the cinema upon the last 30 memorable minutes of an extensive torture sequence. Because of it's slow build up, the last half hits you with such shock, and it is this that makes it such a talked about classic. A perfect film that dishes out a genuinely sickening revenge.

In 2003, this low budget shocker became a classic, rivalling even the mighty Ring, it's simple scare tactics and freaky blue boy ghost, provided some of the most heart pounding moments in any horror, never once was CGI used (a feat it's american counterpart could not resist in adding). It is in knowing that it's all natural that adds to the fear.It helps that this is one horror with a worthwhile story too, and of course you'll never find comfort in hiding under a blanket again. All those safety methods you tried and tested as akid, to protect you from screen horror icons, are all thrown out the window in this supernatural classic.

This Korean black Comedy is simply perfect, combining classical pieces and theatre plays as the surrounding of the carneage. Won Bin narrates as the younger brother to the leader of a team of four expert hitmen who see themselves as heroes of the modern world, and who each fancies a young newsreader, who is their next client. Cruely side-splitting and beautifully executed, this number one box-office hit is simply superb.
