The Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship Of The Ring - Extended Version

There are lots of superlatives in English and I suspect most of them have been used to praise this film. A good story implemented (by all involved) with talent, hard work and love. The ultimate fantasy film.

Aliens

A difficult task picking this from the series but it emerges victorious after careful consideration. James Cameron directs and Sigourney Weaver has a big gun. Plenty of alien-splattering action. The director's cut has a few nice extras - get this version if you can.

Stardust

A magical journey that just warms the soul. A brilliant fairytale that has true love, pirates, wicked sisters, magic and sword fights. It will always be compared with The Princess Bride and while it does not have so many memorable catchphrases or quotable lines, it is just as good. If Chicken Soup for the soul were a film, this would be it. Claire Danes is simply radiant. One for all the family.

Underworld

The battle between vampires and werewolves has been going on for some time. Watch the best version. Strikes the perfect balance between horror, action and adventure. The film is also intelligent enough to give some context to the age-old battle and gives depth to each of the warring sides. Love it!

Hancock

Big Will Smith plays the hard living super who agrees to clean up his act. In comes the PR guy to help him and the transformation is complete. Brilliant special effects, a great story: Smith and Charlize Theron make an amazing couple. A brilliant film if a little frustrating - the film was just way too short! This would make a great franchise - first the prequel with the backstory and then the sequel with all the super hero goodness for everyone to enjoy.

Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone

Built on the shoulders of the excellent books, the first film was spot-on. Great special effects and a magical storytelling make this a definite (cinema, buy, watch) film. While the story alone is strong enough, the stunning supporting cast is the icing on the proverbial cake.

True Lies

Schwarzeneggar's finest hour. He plays the superspy with the family commitments and the secret identity. Yes, it is a definite poke at Bond but certainly done with style. As usual, lots of of guns and explosions and humour which the Bond films lack. An early appearence for Eliza Dushku and Jamie Lee Curtis who proves without a doubt she is one hot babe.
