The Descent

Starting out with horror. This is a brilliant film regardless of whether you like the genre or not. Has a lot of hate on the internet due to it being popular, low budget, well scripted, British and having a mainly all female cast.

The Mist

Another recent horror movie. Again not just one for gore-lovers, this is dipping into the sci-fi pool as well. Adapted from a Steven King novel. I'm not going to tell you what it's about because the less you know, the better it is. Just know that it has one of my favourite endings in movie history.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Usually I'm not easily shaken but this movie scared me a little bit! It's not one that you're going to want to want to watch over and over, but it is one to see at least once. The bit that replays in my mind is when the audience meets Grandfather.

Night Of The Living Dead

The only movie ever to keep me from sleeping. This is the best thing George A Romero has ever done and don't let anyone tell you any different. The ending is haunting.

The Wedding Singer

A good romantic comedy is hard to find. Even if you don't like romcoms or Adam Sandler (I appear to be allergic) try this one out. It is really enjoyable and just a nice film!

The Breakfast Club

I knew I was going to love this film when it started with a quote from Changes by David Bowie. If you haven't seen this film, just sit back and relax you're in for a treat.

The Man Who Fell To Earth

Talking about David Bowie, if you're in a surreal mood try this out. An alien lands on Earth and realises just how isolated humanity is. Better than I describe it though.
  • The Man Who Fell To Earth on DVD (1976)
Starring: David Bowie,  Rip Torn,  Candy Clark

Waterloo Bridge

A neglected gem. Very tragic and very interesting. It's quite a straight story but is so well done you can't help but want to watch it again. Vivien Leigh is beyond amazing in this film and she has been quoted as saying it's her favourite role (above Scarlet O'Hara!).

    Director: Mervyn LeRoy
    Certificate: Certificate: TBC

Gone With The Wind

The best epic movie ever made. All because of Scarlet O'Hara. The greatest character ever to grace the big screen. Get swept away in this on a long Sunday afternoon, a sick day or a day you're hung over and you'll never regret it. Rhett Butler, Mammie and Melanie are brilliant as well!

It's A Wonderful Life

Sticking with the era, this film is a brilliant contradiction! Boiled down to it's easiest form this is a Christmas movie about suicide. James Stewart is at his most charming! Sure, the whole beginning with the stars is a bit corny but if you stick with this until the end you will cry with happiness (unless you are soul less).
