Band Of Brothers

One of the greatest programmes ever made. And all true. Very brave men, and just wait until the last episode to find out who the old men are.

State of Play Series 1

You may have seen the recent film, but this is so much better. Nearly every character is a wonderful actor and the plot keeps you guessing.

Wire, The - Season 1

Takes a few episodes to get to know the characters and this is not my favourite season, but you must start here. I know every talks about this show, but it is great - once you have done all 5 seasons you will go back to the start again.

North And South - BBC

Some wonderful acting and nice sets.

Pride And Prejudice

More faithful to the book with great comic acting and wonderful casting. The film is too short where this has time to explore more characters.

Persuasion

Although a bit short and rushed, this is still a wonderfully made adaptation of Austin's book.

Rome - Complete First Series

Both series were outstanding. The sets are amazing and it is really gory and bloody which is so unusual for most TV shows.

Shogun

This would be great if they remade this. The book is superb, but at over 900 pages long it can be easier to watch this.
  • Shogun (5 discs) on DVD (1981)
    Starring: Richard Chamberlain,  Toshiro Mifune
    Director: Jerry London

Based on James Clavell's bestselling novel, the story of an English navigator whose shipwreck lands him in the middle of the political power struggle between Shogun and Emperor in feudal Japan. The complete nine hour acclaimed television mini-series.

Spooks - Complete Season 1

Some series were just ok, but most really stuck it to the Americans, which is unusual for BBC stuff.

Cranford - Complete BBC Series

Really sad. Sob.
