Okay, so the first one in this list is by no means the worst however this is vastly dissapointing to fans of the video game franchise like myself. Poor adaptation aside, this film still doesn't have a lot going for it besides Milla Jovovich and expansive studio sets.
Resident Evil

(2002) Starring:Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, James Purefoy Director:Paul W.S. Anderson Certificate:
The Umbrella Corporation's Vault, a secret facility located deep below Raccoon City, is sabotaged and a deadly virus is stolen. This film never would've worked. The story; Predators in a pyramid with a bunch of aliens and humans fighting each other. Very little thought or heart seems to have gone into this as is the feeling I get with much of W.S. Anderson's work. Please try harder Paul. Only worth watching for Lance Henrikson revising his many roles from the alien series.
Alien Vs Predator
on DVD
(2004) Starring:Sanaa Lathan, Raoul Bova, Ewen Bremner Director:Paul W.S. Anderson Certificate:
When audiences caught a glimpse of an alien skull mounted in the trophy cabinet of a Predator in the 1990 film PREDATOR 2, it seemed a franchise was about to be born. Sure enough, comic book artists immediately seized on the possibilities suggested by the brief scene, and a number of skirmishes ..read more »
The follow up to W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil is another huge looking production. Written by Anderson and directed by ...someone forgetable. All this does is continue to take someone's original ideas from the video game franchise an pevert it to something souless and uninteresting.
Resident Evil - Apocalypse
on DVD
(2004) Starring:Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Oded Fehr Director:Alexander Witt Certificate:
Alice (Milla Jovovich), one of only two survivors of a contained biochemical disaster, is still in the heart of Raccoon City. STOP IT ANDERSON! That's enough! Try coming up with your own ideas or use someone else's original script and stop borrowing themes from games your NO GOOD AT IT! Ahem, Resident Evil goes post apocalyptic in this third film and the story gets more rediculous. Another expensive looking film though, someone should give all the money to someone else.
Resident Evil - Extinction
on DVD
(2007) Starring:Milla Jovovich, Oded Fehr, Ali Larter Director:Russell Mulcahy Certificate:
Survivors of the Raccoon City catastrophe travel across the Nevada desert, hoping to make it to Alaska. Alice (Jovovich) joins the caravan and their fight against the evil Umbrella Corp.
Oh my goodness why. Another game with such cinematic potential turned into nonsense. Don't get me wrong, I do put my love of the games aside for a more objective view and yet I still find very little to be positive about.
Alone In The Dark
on DVD
(2005) Starring:Christian Slater, Tara Reid, Stephen Dorff Director:Uwe Boll Certificate:
Based on the video game, Alone in the Dark focuses on Edward Carnby, a detective of the paranormal, who slowly unravels a mysterious events with deadly results.
The first big remake of a succesful Asian horror film and not the start but definately a catalist in the trend of taking something already existing and regurgitating on to US cinema screens with all the soul taken out. For the sake of cinema I urge you to please learn to read subtitles and go rent the original. This is the same film without the atmosphere, without the thoughtful creation and with an unnecessary increase in special effects.
The Ring
on DVD
(2002) Starring:Naomi Watts, Martin Henderson, Brian Cox Director:Gore Verbinski Certificate:
In Gore Verbinski's remake of Hideo Nakata's chilling horror film, a group of teenagers all die suddenly and inexplicably exactly one week after watching a mysterious videotape at a remote cabin in the Pacific Northwest. Journalist Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts), a relative of one of the victims, ..read more »
Shame on you Sam Raimi. The original was only a couple of years ago and while you made it look a little better there wasn't any need for the same film with more cgi. Not a great film at and like all the other remakes it's entirely unnecessary.
The Grudge
on DVD
(2004) Starring:Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jason Behr, Clea DuVall Director:Takashi Shimizu Certificate:
Karen, an exchange student who agrees to cover for a nurse, unknowingly enters a Tokyo house, unaware that a dark secret lies within. The house is cursed with a violent plague that causes those individuals who enter the building to die within a fit of rage. As more and more people become victims to ..read more »
Like the original ...BUT BORING AND UNNECESSARY! I do like Jennifer Connely and Tim Roth but their talents are better off making films that don't already exist. This fails to build up the mother daughter relationship in the same way the original does and I just felt empty in comparrison.
Dark Water
on DVD
(2005) Starring:Jennifer Connelly, John C. Reilly, Pete Postlethwaite Director:Walter Salles Certificate:
Based on a story by Japanese novelist Koji Suzuki and a film by Hideo Nakata (THE RING), DARK WATER is a thrilling exercise in psychological terror.
