The first appearance on the list for the Coen Brothers is their sublime comedy, The Big Lebowski. There is literally a million reasons why you need to see this film, incredible cast, genius plot, hilarious dialogue and it's all shot in the usual glorious Coen fashion. Possibly the best comedy ever made.

Kevin Smith's monochromatic debut manages to cram so much chaotic circumstance and (frankly) brilliant dialogue into a day in an american convenience store that it stays with you. You could watch this film over and over and over and it would never get tired. The cherry on the cake is the fact that Clerks 2 was recently released, and it's actually rather good!
