Hogfather

A great Sunday night this was. She loved the tooth-fairy part, I loved the terrific explanation of why it's important for kids to believe in the Hogfather and we both loved the Christopher Lee voiced Death. Terry Pratchett is a genius.

Based on Terry Pratchett's worldwide best selling fantasy book, Hogfather is set on the semi-medieval but strangely familiar Discworld. And the Hogfather (you know, the jolly fat man) who delivers presents to the kiddies at Christmas at the midwinter festival of Hogswatch has gone missing. But it's ..read more »

In Bruges

Wonderful Saturday night film! Both the leads (Farrel and Gleeson) were amazing and worked brilliantly together. The location was inspired and a remarkable turn from Ralph Fiennes totally against type and very funny.

The Colour Of Magic

Really enjoyed David Jason in this, the most recent Pratchett story to be brought to screen. Combining two Pratchett books it travels literally all over (and at one point under) the Discworld, fully embraceing the magic and fantasy of the setting. Some of the funniest scenes involve a chest with legs and attitude, numerous guilds fighting each other and answering the question of what would Conan the Barbarian look like when he gets old...?

Gran Torino

Excellent movie, touching and moving, violent and shocking, incredibly emotional and suspenseful right up until the closing reel. The kind of film that leaves you feeling glad that you have watched it, made all the better for it being suitable (ie entertaining) for all ages.

Wyrd Sisters From Terry Pratchett's DiscWorld

Pratchett does it again. I thought initially that as it was animated it wouldn't have the same appeal as the live action versions but the authors strongest ability has always been his skillful and humorous manipulation of English which shines through regardless of the format. Best line in the film has to be: "Sometimes things that look like things look more like things than things do". Superb.

The Chronicles Of Narnia - The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

Immediate memories from 25 years ago this one. Brought us both back to happier, more innocent times with special effects that do justice to Lewis's vivid imagination and young actors that really fit the part. Mix in a couple of well known Brits doing excellent voice work on some special-effect creatures and this amazing fantasy tale mesmerizes from beginning to end.

Kung Fu Panda

Jack Black at his best: manic energy and enthusiasm, very funny and portraying a Panda doing Kung Fu. Great story, really good supporting cast and smooth as silk Lovejoy (Ian McShane) in the fantastically menacing guise of evil snow leopard Tai Lung. Classic family entertainment. A morality tale of right and wrong combined with animated animals doing kung fu? Game-On!!
