The Usual Suspects

Chances are you've seen this already, but if not line it up for rental immediately. A beautiful, gripping crime drama with a kicker of an ending.

Anchorman

A genuinely funny comedy - a rarity, in other words.

Die Hard With A Vengeance

The best of the three (soon to be four) Die Hard films, due largely to the presence of Samual L Jackson. You can watch it without seeing the first two, so don't worry about being left behind.

Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure

A classic pop-scifi film. I think the sequel is better, but I get the feeling I'm alone there.

Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey

You should watch the first film before this one, but I always preferred Bogus Journey to Excellent Adventure.

Cube

This film isn't as clever as it likes to believe it is, but it's definately worth a look if you like claustrophobic, gruesome science fiction.
  • Cube on DVD (1997)
Starring: Nicky Guadagni,  David Hewlett,  Wayne Robson
    Director: Vincenzo Natali
    Certificate: Certificate: 15

Cube Zero

The prequel to Cube, this is wonderfully made for the low budget. A bit disappointing towards the end as the film loses its sense of claustrophobia, but still worth watching.

Back To The Future

Ha! The Back To The Future trilogy is my favourite trilogy of all time - screw you, Godfather! I watch the three films at least twice a year in one sitting. Rent them all!

Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead

A sadly overlooked adaptation of Tom Stoppard's Shakespeare satire, which follows two incidental characters from Hamlet as they move through the story unaware of their fate. More rewarding if you have a knowledge of Hamlet, but the two leads are brilliant regardless.
  • Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead (1991)
Starring: Tim Roth,  Gary Oldman,  Richard Dreyfuss
    Director: Tom Stoppard
    Certificate: Certificate: PG
    Watch now: £2.49
Centering on two minor characters from Shakespeare's Hamlet, two off-kilter rogues are summoned to the court of the King of Denmark, where they meet a traveling entertainer and attempt to solve a mystery. Based on Tom Stoppard's play, this film won Best Picture at the 1991 Venice Film Festival.

Say Anything

A rather good John Cusack teen movie, forgotten amongst The Breakfast Clubs and Sixteen Candleses of the 80s. This film will teach you that standing outside your ex's house playing Peter Gabriel extremely loudly is a legitimate seduction method.
  • Say Anything on DVD (1989)
