Renting these dvds is okay, but if you decide you'd like to purchase the U.K region 2 dvd and add it to your collection - don't bother as they are either censored/cut by the British Board of Film Classification, or for some reason the U.K has a shorter version. The BBFC usually pass the majority of films uncut. However film studios sometimes request a certain certificate and a film may require cuts ('Robin Hood:Prince of Thieves'), or if the film contains a dangerous fighting technique such as ear clapping, that could be easily copied ('Demolition Man'). Cuts made because of animal cruelty is complusory ('The Abyss'), as is anything that the BBFC consider dangerous to the British public ('Batman Returns'). Glamorous use of illegal and dangerous weapons is also cut from films ('Face/Off'). There are also a number of films that have a definitive director's cut version released in the films native country, and for some reason have not been released in the U.K (Night Watch). Until just recently the BBFC had a thing about headbutts in films. They felt if imitated by children, it could prove to be very extremely dangerous (Star Wars: Attack of the Clones'). They didn't start cutting headbutts from films until around 1995 ('Goldeneye'). i've seen quite a number of PG films released before 1995 with headbutts intact ('The Living Daylights', and 'Star Trek: Generations' features a rather nasty one given by Macolm MacDowell to Patrick Stewart for example). The BBFC are more relaxed about headbutting in the movies now, and usually allow them uncut in films ('Miss Congeniality 2'). Cuts to films usually alter the continuity, and you are not seeing the film as intended by the film makers. If you're a big fan of any of the films/programmes in this listing, then best get yourself a multi-region dvd player, and import (which is perfectly legal by the way). All information about cuts or censorship, was obtained by the BBFC website, dvdcompare.net or melonframers.co.uk. I hope you find this list useful.
