Queer Duck

Get the evening off to a lighthearted start with this fabtastic cartoon. Hysterical and irreverent - like The Simpsons on acid.

QUEER DUCK: THE MOVIE is the feature-length outing of the hilariously irreverent U.S. cartoon series. Written and created by SIMPSONS scribe Mike Reiss, the series gleefully parodies gay stereotypes--and homophobic public figures like Dr. Laura and Jerry Falwell--through the Streisand-loving ..read more »

Brokeback Mountain

Wonderful, sensitive film - get the hankies ready. Anyone not in tears by the final scenes has no heart. One to show your straight friends so that they get some idea of what "gay love" really is.

Pride And Prejudice

Oh, Mr. Darcy! OK, maybe its a bit long for just one night in - but this is BBC costume drama at its very best. Follows the book closely but not slavishly, practically faultless casting and incredible period detail (although some of the plants in the gardens are wrong - but thats just my particular field of expertise). The stunning scene in which Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy hold a long, stilted and awkward conversation while stepping through a stately gavotte is a masterpiece.

Stephen Sondheim - Into The Woods

Intelligent and thought provoking musical based on Grimm's Fairy Tales, starring Bernadette Peters (the thinking fag's crumpet) giving a definitive performance.

Bear Cub

Nine Dead Gay Guys

OK, I admit that I found this pretty dire - the two cute Irish lads alone make it worth watching. But who knows, you might like it.

Tales Of The City

Again, one for a long weekend rather than just a night in, but its great, capturing all the feeling of those hedonistic days of the 70s. Laura Linney earns her first acting laurels as the ingenue Mary-Ann and Olympia Dukakis gives a faultless portrayal of the mysterious Mrs. Madrigal. Forget the dreadful sequel!

Eddie Izzard - Glorious

The thinking person's comedian - sharp, irreverent and intelligent - oh, and hysterically funny. The extended "French" section at the end is an all time classic - even if you dont speak French.

Acorn Antiques - The Musical

OK, I thought it was bloody awful personally, but some of my gay friends adored it. Lord only knows why.

A Star Is Born

No gay guy should be without his Judy films - and this is one of her very best.
  • A Star Is Born (2 discs) on DVD (1954)
Starring: Judy Garland,  James Mason,  Charles Bickford
    Director: George Cukor
    Certificate: Certificate: U
A STAR IS BORN was conceived as a comeback vehicle for Judy Garland, who gives a fascinating and heartrending performance in perhaps the finest work of her career. This film was director George Cukor's first musical and first color picture; the tale of a doomed Hollywood couple, it was a remake of ..read more »
