Rope

Hitchcock's take on the Leopold and Loeb murder case. Of course, the Production Code was in force at this time and the homosexuality of the two protagonists had to be implicit rather than explicit, but it's still obvious.
  • Rope on DVD (1948)
Starring: James Stewart,  John Dall,  Farley Granger
    Director: Alfred Hitchcock
    Certificate: Certificate: PG
Based on the famous Leopold and Loeb murder case (from which two other films, COMPULSION and SWOON, were also derived), ROPE both challenges and terrifies the audience. Alfred Hitchcock disdained the whodunit crime story, which he felt lacked emotional force, and ROPE shows the director's ..read more »

The Big Combo

Violent and disturbing late film noir starring Cornel Wilde. Worth checking out for the two gay henchmen!
  • The Big Combo (1955)
Starring: Cornel Wilde,  Richard Conte,  Brian Donlevy
    Director: Joseph H Lewis
    Certificate: Certificate: PG
Shocking cruelty and explosive performances by Wilde and Conte make this a favorite of film-noir cultists. Regular Guys

Extremely fun comedy from Germany aimed at the mainstream audience.

The Trip

The first five minutes is enough to put you off but, once you get used to the dodgy hair-dos there is much to enjoy in this brilliant film.
  • The Trip on DVD (2002)

    Director: Miles Swain
    Certificate: Certificate: 15
An ambitiously epic gay romance that traces the course of two men from their initial meeting as teenagers in 1973 until 1984. The time is the socially turbulent 1970s when radical politics and the emerging gay rights movement clashed with the rigidly conservative establishment.

Facing Window

A beautiful film from Italy about an old man remembering an affair during world war 2. It has to be seen to be believed. Very moving.
