David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust The Motion Picture

When Bowie announces that "this is the last show we will ever do" and Ziggy becomes legend

Pink Floyd - The Wall

Pink Floyd are perenially unfashionable and some of their greatest moments are those inspired by the demise of Syd Barrett
  • Pink Floyd - The Wall on DVD (1982)
Starring: Pink Floyd,  Bob Geldof,  Bob Hoskins
    Director: Alan Parker
    Certificate: Certificate: 15
Loosely based on the life story of Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's original front man (who was kicked out of the band for his bizarre and disturbing behavior only to go insane shortly thereafter), PINK FLOYD: THE WALL stars Bob Geldof as Pink, a mentally damaged man who has gone from a hopeful child ..read more »

U2 - War

Ok, so I first saw U2 on their War tour, back in early 80s at Leeds City Hall. Bono was in full flag waving pomposity. We thought we could save the world. We didn't, but it was great.
  • U2 - War on DVD (2007)
    Starring: U2
    Certificate: Certificate: Ex
The album that broke America; that stated a political manifesto; that toured to sell-out crowds worldwide, War is the moment a band went from big to massive on a global scale. With immaculately researched archival performance and interview footage, the album and the band is deconstructed by leading ..read more »

No Direction Home: Bob Dylan

What better combination could there be than His Bobness and Martin Scorsese...
  • No Direction Home: Bob Dylan (2 discs) on DVD (2005)
    Starring: Bob Dylan
    Director: Martin Scorsese
    Certificate: Certificate: Ex
Spawning both politically charged folk ballads that came to embody the very spirit of the turbulent 1960s ('The Times They are a-Changin') and sprawling, stream-of-consciousness litanies that irrevocably changed the face of rock music ('Like a Rolling Stone'), the years between 1961-1966 were ..read more »

R.E.M. - Perfect Square

The selection of REM DVDs doesn't do justice to the quality of their CDs. Personally, I'd love a DVD of REM at Nottingham Rock City in 1985 on their Fables of the Reconstruction tour, but failing that, this one has some classics, like Maps and Legends.

Doors, The - Live At The Hollywood Bowl

To many people, Jim Morrison was a self-important t*****. Whatever, the Doors made some great music and must have been spectacular live.
  • Doors, The - Live At The Hollywood Bowl on DVD (1968)

The legendary rock group, The Doors, were at their musical peak when this concert footage was taken. Smiths, The - The Complete Picture

Where would britpop be without the legend that is the Smiths. By all accounts not a great DVD but made better by one reviewer who said "If you want great visuals to accompany the best band of the 80s, stick your old record sleeves to the wall and oscillate wildly"
  • Smiths, The - The Complete Picture on DVD (1992)
    Starring: The Smiths
    Certificate: Certificate: PG
It almost seems like a needless effort to write about the Smiths - one either loves them passionately or despises them. This polarization of opinion could all be due to the effect that the dandy-esque front man Morrissey has on a person. Choosing to sing in a remarkably dramatic manner, writing ..read more »

Classic Albums - The Sex Pistols - Never Mind The B*ll*cks Here
