Butterfly on a Wheel

A film starring Pierce Brosnan and Gerard Butler? It never sounded good to me, either. Can't even remember why i watched it. But i'm glad i did! The storyline has such a twist that i never saw it coming! And the ideas, paired with the creative cinematography and the acting makes it one of the best films from 2006. An under rated gem.

A return to the classic Jim Carrey standard, you know - the 90's ones - with a feel good and often tear jerkingly funny piece of cinema. Didn't get the release it deserved and not only a must for comedy and Carrey fans - but for anyone who is looking for a laugh. Hilarious!

3000 Miles to Graceland

Voilent. It sums up this film in a word. Rubbish - another word that sums up this film. But its enjoyable rubbish! Very, Very 90's (Despite its release date) and very much another immitator of a Quentin Tarentino film, but unlike a Q.T film - It knows that its not going to make new ground in an all ready overcrowded genre and the movie miraculously hits a different stride and never really lets up. Pumped full of action, humour and gore - this actioner will keep everyone entertained.

The Avengers

The film's characters are so British, they make James Bond look American. Hated by critics, audiences, and even fans of the TV show it was based on, 'The Avengers' is great, as long as you're looking for a spy movie that's more than a little weird. Ralph Fiennes gives a brilliant performance as debonair, derby-wearing Agent John Steed, and Uma Thurman also is at her best as his lovely but lethal civilian counter-part Mrs. Emma Peel. The movie is rather odd, so if machine-gun toting grannies, mad scientists disguised as Teddy bears, and a hero that wields an umbrella as his weapon-of-choice aren't your cup of tea (Pun intended. The hot drink features in every scene.), then this film is not for you. Extra points for starring Sean Connery, the original James Bond himself, as a crazy weather controlling maniac hell bent on destroying the world. Worth a watch if you can't find anything else.

Get Carter

If Shakespeare could have written a gangster movie, "Get Carter" would surely be the one. Jack Carter is the 1970s embodiment of classical tragic heroes like Hamlet or Macbeth. Also, in the finest Shakespearian tradition, as the film reaches its climax, the bodies begin to mount with alarming rapidity. The film is initially a slow-burner, but what is arguably a career-best performance from Michael Caine sustains interest until the plot begins, in every sense, to kick in. And when it does, there's no stopping it, as Carter ruthlessly, and recklessly, sets about dealing with his enemies. Gritty, seedy and ironic - Get Carter is the perfect ganster film. Forget the godfather or Essex boys - for the ultimate ganster movie, look no further than Jack Carter and his silver Ford Cortina- ruthlessly followed by the villians Land Rover.

Clockwise

John Cleese was at his harried best in this little gem of a movie. Certainly one of the most under-rated films in this genre of all time. Intelligent, (maybe too clever)extremely funny and a film one can watch over and over without it becoming stale. Cleese's timing is superb and as for his wife and daughter.. an absolute pleasure to observe!

Bubba Ho-Tep

Now here is something peculiar - Elvis and JFK battle an egyptian zombified mummy who sucks the soul out of all the residents from an old filks home. Through their anal passage. Sound like a laugh? If not, then i would not bother renting it. If the idea bemuses - then give it a go! I laughed like hell at parts, Bruce Cambell really does give an exellent Elvis impersonation and the concept of it all is pure and funny enough to keep you hooked!

Doctor Phibes Rises Again

Not every Vincent Price film from the early 70's was outdated, under budgeted schlok. This is a fantastically macabre tale with lashings of spine chilling fatalities (the bending sleeping bag is a once-seen-never-forgotten scene) and plenty of cameos from first rate actors including John Thaw, Terry Thomas and Peter Cushing! Quite a good dollop of satrical humour through out and definatly something different. A well executed, classic film that wont have you fast forwarding to the gory parts. First class.
