Perl Developer
LOVEFiLM has rapidly become the UK and Europe’s leading online DVD rental and film business, and its UK website is one of the top entertainment sites with over 2.5m unique users a month.
We are now looking for 3x Perl Developers with responsibility for working on a high load, enterprise level Linux / Apache / MySQL / Perl platform and who will need good communication skills as well as technical ability. We value both highly structured working as well as a more 'hands on' approach.
The Role
The job will involve being responsible for the implementation & maintenance of existing & new products and services across all business platforms. The role includes challenging development work for LOVEFiLM’s extensive fulfillment and operational technical infrastructure in addition to its web products. It will involve contributing to the quality of delivery including the development, integration, test and release infrastructure.

Responsibilities
- To work with internal and 3rd party suppliers to ensure that software is efficiently implemented and meets strategic business needs.
- To contribute to technical consultancy and advice to the technical and management teams as required.
Required skills:
- Proven professional experience of application development using object oriented Perl on Unix platforms, particularly Linux, Apache, mod_perl, MySQL or other widely used SQL database product.
- Demonstrable awareness of the value of key programming best practice such as unit testing using common test harness software and documentation standards.
- Demonstrate understanding of existing and emerging LAMP technologies and the potential to enhance performance and robustness of LOVEFiLM International’s services and productivity.
- Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams with focus on quality deliverables.
Desired skills:
- Some experience of working with Mason, PHP, JavaScript, DHTML, CSS and possibly an other OO programming language such as Java or C++
- Awareness of principals of development processes with an interest in agile development practices eg. XP, Scrum
- Experience of working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams with focus on quality deliverables.
