Radio Times
Jennifer Lopez strays into Julia Roberts territory here with another romantic comedy that explores the rocky road to matrimony and true love. Lopez plays a wedding organiser whose father seems intent on marrying her off to a childhood friend and who spends her free time playing Scrabble. Charged with arranging the nuptials for wealthy Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Lopez commits the cardinal sin of falling for the groom-to-be, Matthew McConaughey. The star makes a slightly implausible spinster, in her stunning Gucci wardrobe and all-weather lip gloss. McConaughey is far more believable as the doctor who saves her from a nasty accident, falls in love, and then faces a dilemma about which woman to dump. A box-office hit in America, this debut feature from director Adam Shankman is perfect if you're looking for a traditional date movie.
Halliwell's Film Guide
This would-be sophisticated romantic quickly loses its way after requiring the hero to behave badly; its stars strike no sparks off each other and become mired in the contrivances of a feeble script.
Los Angeles Times
"Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey have great chemistry in THE WEDDING PLANNER...[They] not only are accomplished actors, but also have the dazzle of the stars of Hollywood's golden era..."
