World Cup Collections
Once every four years, the entire country is infected with football fever. Sure, the Euro championships are exciting enough, but the World Cup is on another level altogether. When our brave cricketers wrested the Ashes back from Australia, there really ought to have been a public holiday. A nation rose in celebration. But massive, monumental, marvellous as that was, a FIFA World Cup is something else.
Because football's in our blood. And try as many of us will to balance our lives with more vitamin-enriched ingredients, or try as many do to claim it's overrated and of little interest, the fever will always hit, so everyone has to square with that someday. Nothing quite captures the heart like England in the World Cup. Nothing quite has the fearful building momentum of the team's progress through the tournament. Each stage more pressured, more headlong, more precariously poised between glory and disaster.
So as just a little helping hand, should you require it, we've created these mini-collections. A few films, a few football DVDs. Some themed extras to enhance the main event. A bit like savoury snacks or your chosen glass of splosh. There are titles here to get you in the mood, to watch after the event, to provide filmic contrast to the sporting action - there's even a collection for those who are completely anti-footie.
And to complete your enjoyment of World Cup 2006, watch out for a handy pocket planner coming through your door. It's the full tournament schedule, plus a couple of tasty offers for up to four month's free rental. There's also the chance to win a holiday for two to sunny Spain. It's all kicking off. In every respect. So... Come. On. ENGLAND!!

England Expects
Aside from great big fry-ups and wearing suits of armour while stabbing giant lizards, few things are more thoroughly English than putting yourself through the emotional wringer of supporting the national football team.
So with the sun shining and optimism once more riding ludicrously high, let's bolster that belief by reliving some of the great England victories, including 1966 (obviously), Holland, and the 5-1 drubbing of der alte Feind, Germany...

Footie Films
Sometimes, football plays like a bad movie. And sometime it plays like a really good one, with thrills and spills and show-stopping last-gasp drama. Little wonder then, that some film-makers have tried to bring all that theatre into the, er, theatre.
And here they all are: rom-coms, action-adventures, a prison pic starring that modern-day thespian who once squeezed Gazza's nuts. Slapstick, hooligan drama, and a rather wonderful Kung-fu-footie hybrid called Shaolin Soccer.

Sick Of Soccer
You don't have to be a girl to be fed-up with footie, in the same way that you don't have to be a bloke to love it with a fervent passion (we know this for a fact from some fanatical females in the office).
So if you're looking to get as far away as possible from the World Cup (can't imagine it ourselves, but we understand that some people are), then spirit yourself to places entirely footie-less and fancy-free with this collection.

Substitute Sports
It's just possible that we might overdose on football during these four weeks. Unlikely, granted, but there's an outside chance the goal-glut may get too much. Happily, one antidote simply involves switching sports.
Perhaps as post-match entertainment, perhaps on those days without a game, here are the feature film dramas, comedies, adventures and thrillers based on boxing, American football, golf, baseball and many other sports besides...

After A Great Game...
...it can take a while for the buzz to fade. Sometimes you want to party into the early hours. Sometimes you want to run screaming into the street, naked save for the union jack boxers on your head, trying to hug anyone who can't get away quick enough.
And sometimes you just want to bask in the aftermath with some light, football related entertainment playing gently in the background. That's where this collection comes in: undemanding, footie-related fun.

Release The Tension
Pressure. Not always easy. Not much of a picnic for those of us watching at times, either. And chances are, more than one occasion this World Cup will have nails torn, nerves shredding and idiot commentators getting volleys of abuse.
After which the only way to avoid some sort of physical collapse is to blow off steam, big-style. Get mates, get food, get one of these films and turn it up loud. Really really loud.

Post-Match Passion
Scoring a goal in the World Cup Finals is, according to some sources, better than a spot of the other. Which means the goal thing's either very good indeed, or a few footballers are doing it wrong.
Either way, if the warm glow of victory (perhaps assisted by the odd jar of laughing juice) brings on that fond, amiable mood where you love the whole world, then perhaps some romance (and maybe a little sauce) will fit the bill.

Don't forget: you could win a holiday to Spain to really cap it all off. Entry is automatic when you take up one of our sizzling summer pre-pay offers, so keep an eye out for that World Cup Pocket Guide coming through your letterbox - all the details are on that fixtures planner.
