10,000 BC

This is a sweeping odyssey into a mythical age of prophesies and gods, when spirits rule the land and mighty mammoths shake the earth. In a remote mountain tribe, the young hunter, D'Leh, has found his heart's passion--the beautiful Evolet. When a band of mysterious warlords raid his village and kidnap Evolet, D'Leh is forced to lead a small group of hunters to pursue the warlords to the end of the world to save her. Driven by destiny, the unlikely band of warriors must battle saber-tooth tigers and prehistoric predators and, at their heroic journey's end, they uncover a Lost Civilization. Their ultimate fate lies in an empire beyond imagination, where great pyramids reach into the skies. Here they will take their stand against a powerful god who has brutally enslaved their people.

  • Undeniably spectacular... Entertainingly mad, rip-snorting throwback to vintage Saturday matinee fare, with all the swell set piece thrills state-of-the-art technology can throw at it

    • Empire
  • 10,000 BC works just fine as an action Western with handsome actors in striking costumes and a few CG predators, which are giddy fun

    10,000 BS

I shall keep it brief, as I have already wasted 2 precious hours of my life on this film at the cinema. But it might not be too late for you, so: AVOID THIS TERRIBLE, AWFUL MOVIE!

From Mr Entertaining Big BadaBoom Blockbuster, Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Day After Tomorrow) you would at least expect some, even if low brow, fun and enjoyment. Nope, none, not a sausage.

What's wrong with it? It will be quicker to tell you what I did enjoy about it, namely the very tasty ice cream I purchased of the Ben & Jerry's store in the foyer and having my hubby next to me pulling the same faces of disbelief and cringe- it made me feel better.

If at the point where someone asks 'Why is old mother cold?' you don't actually feel like shouting 'I don't care!', then congratulations, you did better than me. And maybe you can come up with a better answer to why she is cold than 'Because she's a clever wise woman who has teleported herself out of this pile of rubbish into somewhere much much better...'.

Dreadful and one of my 5 worst films ever.

    Truly awful

As someone with a keen interest in pre-history, i just thought it was dreadful, even beyond the obvious lack of research (e.g. domestication of horses).

The whole film uses our own values and enforces them onto those of prehistoric society...painting a very grim picture of regimented ritualistic tribalistic and violent life.

Whilst the evidence supports this to some extent, it really may only paint half the picture. These people may well have lived far more fulfilling lives than those painted by the film.

Oh and the killer beasts were just awful. I had to walk out at that stage!
