If you thought that historical dramas were dry and boring, think again! This exceptionally well written, filmed and performed film, presented through the eyes of saxons, gives an astonishingly authentic feel to what it must have been to live through the terrible year of 1066. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the succession (we'll never really know but certainly the Norman accounts were biased) Harold was a remarkable man as were the men that he fought and died with. There are some minor historical liberties taken, but overall I would say that this should be shown in every school in the country. Utterly compelling throughout!
'A customer from London' has it exactly right, making this film poor. To make matters worse, the director's wibblings are patronising in the extreme. Don't waste your time feeding this DVD into your player.
If you want an insight into 1066, Get Simon Schama's 'History of Britain' and view the episode 'Conquest'.
