This samurai movie from Takashi Miike tells the story of a group of assassins intent on killing an evil lord. It gets a big thumbs up from us.

Swords, Traps and good old Hara Kiri.
By JonnyHavoc (21 reviews) from New Cross Gate , 04 May 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Watched this last night and omg - what a film. If you love samurai films such as seven samurai, The Blind Swordsman: Zatoichi, baby cart etc etc youll love this. It has everything, bald heads, awesome sword fights, traps, lies, honor and even a bit of Hara Kiri. I could describe the amazing visuals and honest liking of feudal Japan but you do not need to know that to see this movie.
Enjoy and sharpen you sword.- Was this review helpful to you?

(106)Nippon and rent it
By ZedsDead (26 reviews) from LONDON , 13 Apr 2013Jolly solid subtitled movie, good stunt work, excellent sets and interesting storyline. It's not a classic but it is rememorable and would happily watch again on TV.- Was this review helpful to you?

Masterful filmmaking!
By Sammybwoy (4 reviews) , 12 Mar 2013I was blown away by this film. Visually stunning. The detail in the costumes, weapons and other props is amazing. The shots of the Japanese lanscapes and historical buildings are a visual delight. This is all there to take in along with the amazing fight scenes and sometimes amusing script. This film is very violent and dark in some places, but if you can't handle that then don't watch it. A Japanese western of sorts with several obvious influences (Seven Samurai, Shogun Assassin, Sam Pekinpah's The Wild Bunch are a few I can think of) that all add to this magnificent film. Brilliant. Takashi Miike is a master.- Was this review helpful to you?

Slow build up, frantic end
By mj55 (96 reviews) , 03 Mar 2013The last 40 minutes of this film is given over to a frantic 'impossible odds' running battle. Not unlike the Seven Samurai in concept, the preceding 70 minutes is taken up with gathering the gang together and ensuring you see the bad guy as a truly despicable, conscienceless sadist who has power he doesn't deserve just because of who his dad was. Not even close to being a classic, but OK if you're partial to samurai films.- Was this review helpful to you?

The Seven-and-Six Samauri
By GwydionM (57 reviews) from Peterborough , 20 Jan 2013This story owes a lot to 'Seven Samauri', but is in every way worse. A highly improbable background and it is all about struggles within the elite, ignoring ordinary people. There is also some gruesome and unnecessary stuff at the start, and some essential elements of the plot are only in the Deleted Scenes of the DVD. There is some quite good martial-arts in the second half, but the 'bad guys' are improbably incompetent. And the only non-Samauri improbably tough.- Was this review helpful to you?

Brutal samurai action
By mawdsleycraig (1 review) , 22 Dec 2012Amazing martial arts action. A must for fans of Kurosawa. Get through the slow (and gruesome) first half and then enjoy the astonishing battle.- Was this review helpful to you?
