Not bad at all its no Full metal Jacket or Platoon and sure the acting seems a little over the top in terms of the charecters but it is compelling viewing none the less and really highlights the harshness of war.
Pretty good story although the ending leaves allot to be desired but it is the type of film that you simply cant turn away from and it is pretty brutal and real in places.
The director was certainly trying to send a message about the harshness of WAR and how the hardest vet can cack pants at anytime and all I can say about that is message received and understood!!
I've seen just about every war film made - vietnam movies are normally the most violent and this was the most violent Vietnam movie I've seen by far - it is harrowing to watch and I am not a person easily upset by violence on screen! As the other reviewer says it's as much a horror film as an action film.
In most Vietnam films you normally get some lighter scenes in between the action, say of the soldiers partying or playing around mixed in with some great music from that era - no such indulgence here!
I liked the characters, cinematagrophy etc. it isn't as polished as Platoon or Full Metal Jacket but is isn't 'B' movieish either.
The film possibly tries a bit too hard to rub the 'war is hell' message in - even more so than Apocalypse Now. Because of this the plot is very simple - not much of story more like a documentary of particularly bloody day in the war.
I'd read about the horror of tunnel warfare in vietnam but was still shocked by what they portrayed here.
I would reccomend this film only to die hard war film fans or horror movie fans only - even then it isn'l brilliant but it's not bad either.
