I really enjoyed the film but i got the feeling you needed to have read the book first, i was constantly telling the wife what was going on and why it came about, because so much of the book was missed out and she had not read it.
After reading, and rereading the book this film adaptation of Orwells Classi simply seems lacklustre. All of the furtive energy that was in the book is completely missing in the film. In the book Winstion and Julia enter into thier affair to simply screw the party, not each other-as implied in the film. In the book its more about rebellion and not lust. However, the darkly disturbing world, as presented by Orwell, is compelling. As is O'Brian, who up until Winstion is caught seems to be on our protagionists side.
