The sequel to the racing smash THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS may not have Vin Diesel as its star, but it burns with even higher octane than its predecessor, and a lot less extraneous drama. Back in action is undercover cop Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) whose career has hit the skids since he let Diesel's character escape at the last film's end. He has sunk in status and is now a fringe dweller on the Miami street racing scene. A chance at redemption arrives when the fuzz recruits him to investigate Carter Vellone (Cole Hauser), a top-dog street racer with dangerous drug connections. O'Connor recruits his bickering childhood pal (model/singer Tyrese), now a nitro-burning ex-con from the Diesel school of toughness, to help him pull the bad guys to the curb with a tyre-spinning vengeance. John Singleton (BOYZ IN THE HOOD, HIGHER LEARNING) directed, and obviously had great fun delivering, a straight-up racing thriller that's free of the message-bearing pressure of being a John Singleton film. 2 FAST fairly roars off the screen with comic book exuberance and a cheerful disregard for anything that gets in the way of its forward momentum. Best of all is Tyrese, a natural, laid-back star he's not afraid to poke fun at his own shirtless model-boy image and amply compensates for the mighty Vin's absence. Rapper Ludacriss is also memorable as O'Connor's mechanic, as is model Devon Akoi as a cute female racer.

You'll miss Vin Diesel — model-turned-actor Tyrese is no substitute for the gravel-voiced hunk — and the crude story here is lower-octane than its predecessor, but director John Singleton's splashily shallow sequel provides enough revved-up cheap thrills to make the grade as loud dumb fun. Paul Walker is back — and blanker than ever — as the discredited cop, forced to go undercover to infiltrate the evil empire of Miami drug baron Cole Hauser. Just about on his side are his old illegal street racing pal Tyrese and Hauser's mistress (played by Eva Mendes). How they halt Hauser's escape into wealthy exile without help from the apparently inept FBI is entertaining if pretty standard-issue stuff (clue: it involves lots and lots of cars). This 75-million-dollar-movie has the best special effects and stunt work Hollywood money can buy, yet for most of its running time it feels like little more than a souped-up B-movie.
Each new film from John Singleton makes it harder to remember when he seemed a promising director; this boy-racer saga has the depth of a video game with less interesting action.
In the true words of Roman Pearce (played by newcomer Tyrese) this film is all about the above, and more!
With a stunning cast and gorgeous cars to mix (Make mine the Evo7!) all else the film needed was a matching storyline.
Does the film have this? I'l let you decide!
Whether you watched the first film or not make sure you check out the prelude to 2fast 2furious before watching the film. It gives a nice 10 minute refresher on the past, and what has happened until the start of the film.
If you liked the first film consider this a continuation of the 'Paul Walker' story rather than a whole new street racing film. A definate must watch for any car enthusiast!
The thing with 2Fast 2Furious is that you get exactly what you expect...and want. Fast cars, bright lights and plenty of crazy car races and stunts. If it's plot lines you're after try DayS Of Thunder, but you don't or you wouldn't be checking this film out!
I actually preferred this to the original as the cars were cooler and the action bigger and better.
There's not a lot to say in a review of 2Fast 2Furious but in short, if you want a few drinks and pizza with your mates, this is the ideal companion.
Actor Tyrese Gibson is desperate to star in the next Fast & Furious movie, after the massive success of the latest installment. Gibson starred in 2003's 2 Fast 2 Furious, but he opted out of subsequent sequels. The franchise returned in 2009 with its fourth film, Fast & Furious, which proved to be a surprise U.S. box office hit - taking a staggering £50 million in its opening weekend last month (03-05Apr09). And Gibson is so impressed, he wants to jump back onboard. He tells Starpulse.com, Read more
