2001 is one more maniac than Herschel Gordon Lewis managed, and several hundred more than the budget could obviously stretch to. As with most remakes, there's not a single surprise on offer here, so it's simply the story of a bunch of obnoxious, arrogant college kids going on Spring Break and being detoured to Pleasant Valley where the Southerners proceed to carve them up and eat them. If you like blood, guts and breasts, you will like this film. If you think that all sounds juvenile, then you wouldn't be wrong.
Oddly, the last time I heard of the director, he was writing polite British costume dramas ('Where angels fear to tread',etc) and directing the ultra-polite British comedy, 'Jack and Sarah'. Just goes to show - it's the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
