A belated sequel to Stanley Kubrick's '2001 - A Space Odyssey' (1968) - an earlier Arthur C. Clarke novel. Nine years after the Jupiter voyage of Discovery went mysteriously awry, the Soviet Union and United States team together to launch a salvage operation, despite being on the brink of nuclear war. The questions to which the crew seek an answer include ascertaining what happened to the ship's computer HAL and discerning the significance of the huge black monolith floating in space near to the stricken craft.

'2010' sets out to reveal the answers to many things we have been wondering after watching '2001 A Space Odyssey' and does a nice job although not in quite such a 'classic cinema' way as the first story.

It's nearly a decade since the strange goings on near Jupiter. The US and the Russians decide to forget their differences to go and find out what happened to Dave Bowman, Hal, and crew..plus, there are new developments of a larger scale to investigate...

Good performances all round here apart from maybe a couple of dodgy Russian accents from British actors!

If you enjoyed '2001' and were left wondering afterwards, this film is for you.

The cutting room floor could not have afforded the special effects of 2001, but the story had a satisfactory conclusion.

A Space Bore

Hardly riveting follow-up to 2001: A Space Odyssey - but who could follow Kubrick's masterpiece? Turgid dialogue and none of the mystique of the forerunner. Even the computers aren't sinister any more. And where are we with star filled multiplying black obelisks?? Dozed off a couple of times so can't tell you much about the plot. Good to watch just to say you've seen the Kubrick follow-up.

Having read the books on this and 2001 enjoyed both.

On Blu-ray its good but the restoration I thought showed up

some of the blue screen used too much.

But still a good watch if you enjoy your sci-fi.

Not the classic of the first, but the director does an excellent job conveying Arthur c Clarke's message to the screen.

functional unlike HAL

a suitable film to follow on from 2001 a space odyssey,while it does not reach the heights of this first film it adquately answers the questions the needed to be answered
