all memories are traces of tears

2046 review

4th April 2011

as 2046 dissolves slowly into its languid and forgetful narratives, it brings freedom from the traditions of story telling and allows an almost metaphysical immersion in mood, colour and rhythm. time is released from linear structures, and image becomes so full of feeling, it is transformed into pure emotion. the stories lovingly seduce one another into oblivion, but the film never disappears into its own aesthetic. it lives there. exuberantly. it is an enchanted, transcendental, and a forlorn land of wonder.
