Whilst Spacey may be silky, this story of MIT gamblers falls short of a full hand...

A rare occasion that I switched off the TV with 38 minutes to go and being sure I was not going to miss a thing. The script was very dull, yes it was predictable but better films are too. This one seemed to lack any form of twist, genuine humour, curiosity or other form of emotion from the start. Spacey's character was stunted by nature in this film, allowing his heavy-weight appearance to be just good - nothing compared to most of his other films. Some of the film was laughably silly (the main 'boy' needed a lesson in financial security) maybe some of those parts were real, I do not know but they made the film even blander.

Top notch acting and a very credible story line make this a very enjoyable and entertaining movie. It is very nicely paced, never boring, never so fast that you can't keep up.

i have watched this film heaps of times and it does not get old. i love the twists towards the end, i screamed the first time i was it!

i dont really like the start of the film though i think it takes a wee while to get to the point, but it is so worth the wait.

it is based on a true story that i find interesting :)

  • Decent Enough, But A Very Predictable Story

    Rated - 3.0 stars

    Goodfellas-for-geeks? Well almost.

It's a decent enough film based on a very interesting true story, but I confess I got a tad bored. It's not that it's slow or dull, it's just that the story arc was so predictable that I found myself hitting the fast-forward button.

Kevin Spacey does his Spacey thing, although his character is somewhat implausible. He's utterly dislikable too, as are many of the other characters which doesn't help for watchability.

The final twist, is, fortunately pretty good and the last twenty minutes or so do save the film. But if you get bored half-way through?Well that's never a good thing. And it didn't happen with Goodfellas.

Have looked forward to seeing this film for so long & it finally arrived!!!!

I have to admit I wasn't disappointed in the slightest, Kevin Spacey was just brilliant, not so much a fan of Kate Bosworth I have to say but she was equally good.

Now, wouldn't it be wonderful if you could count as well as that when it comes to cards & actually have the b*lls plus the brains to do that.

Laurence Fishburne; played more of a cameo roll than I would have expected but still the formidable actor he always is & what makes the film even better is that it's based on true events.

    Absolutely great ****
