french film with subtitles. Rather violent in places but considering the genre not surprising. Jean Reno gives an intense portrayal of a respected gang leader in the war between various factions in Marseilles. Too many villians made it difficult to know who was who, friend or foe, but that was part of the theme. Not as good as Luc Besson's Nikita but worth a look.

Jean Reno dominates as the apparently indestructible opera-loving boss who becomes a near-mythical figure in Marseilles. Bloody, thrilling, funny and touching, full of quirky characters and fabulous performances, this is a superb film.

This is a long film but a very good gangster thriller with a great cast. The storyline is gripping with a lot of violent scenes, some people may think too many, but if you are trying to portray the real world of violence in gangster terms then this does the job enough for 'ordinary' people to comprehend and appreciate the precarious situation of villians where there is no real loyalty or protection for life. I would definately recommend this film.

Once in a while, just once in a while, the French cinema comes up with a masterpiece and this is one of them. There's nothing left to say really except that not watching it would leave a massive gap in your cinematic experience.

    Very good.

Yes its violent but no more than anything else nowadays. How someone can say its too violent with films like SAW,and countless others that have no holds barred on the vilence.

Interesting story and didn't get boring
